Awhile ago, I had the privilege of praying a Mother’s Day blessing over the mothers at our church. The Spirit and I collaborated and created this beautiful prayer together. May this be a blessing to you, mamas! I pray that you will pray this over your family and other families that you encounter!
Dear Jesus,
Thank you. Thank you for these wonderful women that you have created in Your likeness and in Your image. Thank you that you have placed this calling on their lives, Lord, to be mothers.
We pray for all the mothers here—whether a biological mother, an adoptive mother, a grandmother, or a spiritual mother—all of you are mothers! And God has placed you for such a time as this.
We thank you, Lord, for their hearts towards their children. To raise them up in Spirit and in Truth. We thank you, Lord, that You have given them Your strength, Your grace, and Your mercy. And we pour this out upon you, mothers, in the Power of the Holy Spirit, this anointing of motherhood—which is one of the greatest callings that we can have.
We pray for you, mothers, who are walking in a season of weariness and burdened by the cares of being a mother. Because it’s no easy task. This is a hard call. But God has placed you for such a time as this. And He sees you. Mothers, He sees you and He blesses you just as He saw Hagar, Abraham’s and Sarai’s servant in the wilderness, pregnant with Ishmael (Genesis 16). He saw her. He showed up and He spoke to her and He wiped those tears off her face. He said, I will bless you! I will bless you with offspring and they will be more numerous than you could ever think or imagine. I am El-Roi, the God who sees you, Hagar. And God is saying to you today, mothers—I am El Roi and I see you. I see you putting in the work, putting in the time, pouring out the love. Even when you think it goes unnoticed, I. See. You. And I bless you.
Thank you, God, for these mothers. Thank you for the children you have placed in their lives, in their care, and we bless them. We ask for the outpouring of Your Spirit over these families, that You would raise them up to know You. To seek You. To love You.
We pray peace and joy would be your portion and that you would see just how vital you are to the kingdom of God and the ministry that you are pouring into your children. We bless your ministry, mothers. That you would go out and speak life into your children, to speak truth into your children, that you would raise them up to know Jesus. And there is no greater call than that—to raise up children to know Jesus, the One who will give them life abundance. The One who gives you, mothers, life in abundance.
So, we pray this all in the Mighty Name of Jesus, you will go forth and be a blessing, that you would be blessed, that life abundant will pour forth from God onto you, onto your hearts, and into your souls, onto your families, your children, your children’s children, to a thousand generations.
